Cyprus officially the Republic of Cyprus is an island country in the eastern Mediterranean. It is the most populous and the third largest island in the Mediterranean. It is situated south of turkey and southeast of Greece, west of Syria and Lebanon, northwest of Israel and Palestine, north of Egypt.
Cyprus is definitely part of Greece, but not culturally. As the entire island and the republic of Cyprus is part of the European Union. Yet, northern portion of the island is under Turkish Control.
Historically and culturally it is a European Country but geographically it is closer to Asia. Cyprus occupies the two-thirds of the island towards the south as said Turkish republic occupies the northern third of the island.

Yellow color evokes copper resources on the island, and the copper shade representative’s name Cyprus itself is inferred from a Greek word. It was formally adopted on August 16, 1960. The crossed green olive branches represent the hope for peace between the Turkey and Greeks.
